Why did the GOP lose the presidential race in 2012? Partly the reason was their policy positions on gay rights, women’s rights, immigration reform, taxes and fiscal policy. But the primary reason they lost was that they chose the worst possible candidate in Mitt Romney, except for Rick Perry, Rick Santorum, Michele Bachmann, Ron Paul, Newt Gingrich or Herman Cain. They could have selected a sensible candidate like Jon M. Huntsman, Jr. Instead they spurned sense and tried to overcome Mitt’s weaknesses by the expenditure of vast amounts of dollars.
