Advice to the GOP

The Republican National Committee has just issued a report on how to reform the GOP message in order to win the presidency in 2016. They intend to reduce the number of debates and hold the national convention in June, 2016. That is a very good idea to avoid the hurricane season which disrupted both the 2008 and 2012 conventions. In addition, I would suggest that the GOP not hold their convention on the East Coast, the Gulf Coast, or south of San Francisco on the West Coast. They might even consider Alaska which never sees a hurricane or a typhoon.

Michael Steele was chairman of the RNC (Republican National Committee) from January, 2009, to January, 2011. He was defeated in his re-election attempt by Reince Priebus. I held a negative opinion of Steele because of what he said about Barack Obama. However, since he left the RNC, his expressed opinions have become, in my opinion, much more reasonable. According to Rachel Maddow, Steele’s record as chairman of the RNC was much more successful than that of Priebus. I have grown to like the guy. He is the kind of Republican that the party and the country need more of.

Reince Priebus is the chairman of the Republican National Committee. He has indicated that he intends to run for re-election to the post in January, 2013. If he is re-elected, it will indicate that the GOP has learned nothing from the recent election. If Mitt Romney had won, Mitt would have selected his candidate for the post of chairman of the RNC.

Obama’s tone

According to Michael Steele, former chairman of the RNC, it’s not what President Obama says, it is more a lack of strength of tone. In other words, the GOP no longer believes in Teddy Roosevelt‘s speak softly and carry a big stick. When given an opportunity to criticize the President, the GOP will use any excuse they can, even the ridiculous one of not speaking with sufficient gruffness and the swagger of a George W. Bush.

Push poll

One year to go to the November 2012 election and bright and early this morning I received my first push poll call from the Republican National Committee. It was a live human being so I agreed to talk and listen. However, he didn’t listen to what I had to say and continued to read from his script rather than engage in conversation. Then I hung up in disgust.
