The Senate voted 79 to 19 to allow voting on the budget. Ted Cruz went down to defeat on his effort to defund Obamacare. He was right in claiming that there are more wacko birds in the Senate than John McCain thought. Fortunately for the country, they are not numerous enough to mount a successful filibuster.

Against All Odds: My Life of Hardship, Fast Breaks, and Second Chances by Scott Brown. Recently Ted Cruz said that he would like an US Senate composed of 100 Jesse Helms. On the other hand, I would prefer to replace just three Senators, Mike Lee, Rand Paul and Ted Cruz himself, with Senators like Scott Brown. In his book, Scott portrays himself as someone who thinks for himself and is not afraid to say what he thinks and works for the common good. With more Senators like him and replacing some of the more outspoken TEA Party members in the House, Congress would be a far more able body than it is now.

Scott Brown had a very difficult childhood, but he worked hard to overcome those difficulties. With hard work and some luck, he rose to the US Senate. I admire what he has accomplished and I hope that his stay on FOX News is only a temporary one. I disagree with Scott on some of the issues, but I respect and admire the man. If he is a candidate for president in 2016, I believe that he would be a stronger candidate than Chris Christie. By coincidence, I am currently reading the book, Chris Christie: The Inside Story of His Rise to Power by Bob Ingle and Michael G. Symons. I’ll report on that book in a future post.

Insidious budget cutters

Yes, Rand Paul, I mean you. Rand Paul and some others want to reduce the total Federal budget slowly by 1 or 2% per year. Doesn’t sound like much does it, but at the same time the total is getting smaller, they propose a radical shift in the component parts of that budget. The military budget will grow at the same time that safety net programs shrink dramatically. The military will receive a larger slice of a smaller pie leaving only crumbs for the rest of government. Just say no to Rand Paul and his budgetary deceptions.

TEA Party conservatives

To be a successful, TEA Party conservative, a politician must have a short name of 7 or 8 letters combined that supporters can remember and spell, such as Mike Lee, Ted Cruz and Rand Paul. At 10 letters, Marco Rubio is too long; perhaps he should consider shortening it to Mark Ruby. Jeb Bush at 7 letters could make it if he changed some of his positions. Michele Bachmann failed as a successful TEA Party politician since her name is too long and too hard to spell. Here in Utah, Mia Love lost narrowly in 2012 and is expected to run again for Congress in 2014. Although her name is only 7 letters long, she has other factors against her success, including youth and gender.

Mirror, mirror, on the wall
Who is the most conservative of them all?
Is it Mike Lee? No
Is it Ted Cruz? No
Is it Rand Paul? No
Who is the most conservative of them all?
Wacko Bird is who.
He/she is the one the Right seeks.
Palin and Bachmann missed the cut.
Acceptable to the base
But unelectable to higher office.
