Jobs are job #1 for the GOP in Congress. What they mean by that, but don’t say, is preserving their jobs in Congress is job #1. And to do that their strategy is to oppose everything that the President proposes and is their job #2.
In his book No Apology, Mitt Romney tried to take every position on almost every question. Barack Obama should follow Mitt’s example and do the same. Then the GOP would not know which policy to oppose. During the sequester fight, the GOP contended that the sequester was the President’s idea. They did that to avoid blame for the bad effects of the sequester. If they truly believed that the sequester was Barack’s idea, they wouldn’t have voted for it.

Our Federal government has three branches, executive, legislative and judicial, and two of the three are elected periodically. Only the judicial branch is not elected and enjoys lifetime tenure. I think that it is time to end the lifetime tenure of the Federal judiciary, especially the US Supreme Court, which tends to lag behind necessary change by years or decades.
This is what I propose to put all three branches of the Federal government on an equal footing; limit all Federal elected offices and the Federal bench to serving a maximum of 12 years. Judges would continue to be nominated and confirmed, but they would serve only for 12 years. Judges are expected to be non-political, but some try to game the system, timing their retirements to when their party is in the White House. That must stop.
For the other two branches, I would also limit their terms to 12 years.
Six 2-year terms for members of the House
Two 6-year terms for Senators
Three 4-year terms for Presidents.
Under the present two-term limit for Presidents, speculation begins immediately about the next election after a President is-re-elected. That reduces a President’s ability to enact needed reforms during his/her second term. The possibility of a third term would give an incumbent President more time to accomplish the will of the people who elected him/her.
Tonight’s debate was a clear win for the President, and he won on substance. Mitt won the first debate on style. So the score is now one and one for each man. The third debate will be the tie breaker and it will be on foreign affairs. Mitt has no foreign policy experience so Barack should be the clear winner there on both substance and style.

On the day Barack Obama was inaugurated, January 20, 2009, leaders of the GOP met in secret to declare war on the President and since he represents all Americans, on all of us. They are waging an economic war of obstruction to prolong the Great Recession and to force a weary electorate to elect a Republican president in 2012. According to the GOP, only a Republican is a legitimate occupant of the White House.
The artificial prolongation of the Great Recession by the GOP has caused suffering by millions in the US and around the world. It is also causing the early deaths of thousands who lack the income to purchase adequate food, shelter and medical care. Some on the Left are labelling the GOP class warfare as treason. I would not go so far as to agree with that assessment. I do believe that the authors of the GOP strategy deserve to serve time in prison. If Mitt loses in November and if the GOP continue their class warfare, then I would be open to reconsidering my decision on whether or not their acts meet the definition of treason.
On a personal note, when I see a GOP spokesperson on TV telling lies about the President and Democrats in general, his/her smug, self-satisfied demeanor causes my blood pressure to spike. This is not good for my health.
