Gun rights/gun wrongs

Gun rights are guaranteed by the Second Amendment while gun wrongs are guaranteed by the NRA. 30,000+ Americans die every year while far fewer die annually by acts of terrorism and our wars against terrorism. Why do we sacrifice so many lives to prevent random acts of terror? Partly because gun sales and wars are so profitable for some and partly because we don’t value the people who die. We put a higher value on the unborn than we do on the living. There is also the fear factor: fear of change, fear of the unknown and the pseudo fear of our own government whipped up for profit by the fear mongers on the right.

Guns rule

Fear sells
Truth tells
GOP lies
No surprise
NRA says, “Jump”
Congress, “How high?”
FOX lies
Democracy dies
Smoke clears
Victims scream
Survivor tears
AR-15s trump
Will of people
Filibusters must go
Replace Harry Reid
Until then
Guns triumph again.

Walmart and the NRA

The Wal-Mart Effect, How the World’s Most Powerful Company Really Works–and How It’s Transforming the American Economy by Charles Fishman. I read this book several years ago, and now as I re-read it, something just jumped out at me as we try to eneact gun safety measures. Walmart does not want us to know how Walmart affects the country–employment, wages, healthcare, and quality of goods and services. And the NRA does not want the government collecting statistics on gun violence. That tells me that both Walmart and the NRA have something to hide, something that they fear the American voter might use  to decide to support restrictions on how both operate.

The NRA March

Over hill, over dale,
Over a child’s lunch pail
The NRA go rolling along.
In and out, hear them shout,
Give me liberty or
Give someone else death.
The NRA go rolling along.
AR-15s at the ready
Locked and loaded
High capacity magazines full
The NRA go marching along.
Congressmen and women in the rear
Supporting every NRA position
No measure too extreme
The NRA go marching along.

Whenever Wayne LaPierre of the NRA opens his mouth to comment on gun legislation, he is one step closer to self-destruction and he will take the NRA with him.

The TEA Party 3, Mike Lee, Rand Paul and Ted Cruz, have threatened to filibuster any gun legislation in the US Senate. Together with Michele Bachmann in the House, they will destroy the TEA Party. The question in my mind is will they take the GOP with them? To survive the destruction of the TEA Party, the GOP will require a stronger leader than Reince Priebus.
