Rachel Maddow suggested last evening that GOP opposition to Susan Rice stems from their desire to fill John Kerry‘s Senate seat with Scott Brown if Kerry becomes Secretary of State or Defense. I can believe  that the GOP is that devious, but I cannot believe that they are that bright. The recent election demonstrated a bunch of 15 watt bulbs in 100 watt sockets.

Strength versus weakness

Barack Obama’s foreign policy successes are considered by most to be a source of strength. Just as they did in 2004 with John Kerry’s experience in Vietnam, the GOP are trying to turn a source of strength into a weakness. The GOP were successful in 2004 with their Swiftboat campaign. Now in 2012, the GOP talking heads are unanimous in parroting the line that President Obama is responsible for the terrorist attack in Libya. They are trying to make the public forget who was responsible for the killing of bin Laden.

During the initial confusion after the attack, not all of the Obama administration spokespeople spoke with a single voice. I would suggest that some allowance be made for human error. Which would you prefer, adults expressing their opinions or a chorus line of sycophants united in expressing the GOP party line? I would opt for the thinking adults.

Words of wisdom

John Kerry is standing in for Mitt Romney in Barack Obama’s debate preparation. If anyone knows what Mitt needs to be prepared for, it is John Kerry. During his speech at the DNC, John Kerry gave some advice to Mitt. “Before you debate Barack Obama on foreign policy, you better finish the debate with yourself!” Words of wisdom that Mitt should take to heart.

Swiftboats were small, power boats used in the Vietnam war by the US to combat the Viet Cong. The Democratic candidate in 2004, John Kerry, won three Purple Hearts for his actions during the Vietnam war, mostly on board a swiftboat. The George W. Bush campaign was able to turn a Kerry strength against him by means of the Swiftboat Veterans for Truth, a bogus group ginned together by the GOP for the purpose of defeating Kerry.

Now in 2012, the GOP is trying to swiftboat President Obama by using the death of Osama bin Laden, an Obama strength, against him. The GOP has gathered together a group that claims that the President is leaking national security information for political purposes. Don’t be deceived by the GOP’s false political attacks. Swiftboating in 2004 won the election for Bush. We cannot afford to allow a repeat of that tactic to elect Mitt Romney. The stakes this election are too high for us to allow deceit to be successful, again.

3 debates

Tentatively there will be three presidential debates between Barack and Mitt and one VP debate between Joe and X. I expect Barack to win all three by a wide margin. I hope that the debates are not too one-sided because that would be painful to watch. Perhaps Mitt should wear a wire as George W Bush probably did in one debate with John Kerry. Remember the unexplained bulge under George’s coat?
