Like father, like son

The quality of Republican leaders has fallen off a cliff. Formerly, GOP leaders were educated men and women of principle and character. That is no longer true.

3 examples:

George HW Bush fathered George W Bush, our worst President.

George Romney fathered Mitt Romney, a terrible candidate,

Ron Paul fathered Rand Paul, a TEA Party favorite and a man of immense ignorance.

I received an email moments ago from a right-wing source calling the present economy the Obama Great Depression or the Great Depression 2. If you recall your history, the first Great Depression is forever associated with Herbert Hoover who was in office when it began in 1929. It did not become FDR’s Great Depression in 1933 because FDR tried to work the US back into prosperity despite opposition from the GOP and the US Supreme Court. What we currently label the Great Recession and some in the GOP want to relabel as the Obama Great Depression began in 2008 under George W. Bush. Obama has been trying to turn the economy around and has had limited success, success limited by the constant GOP obstructionism.

Missing

This is to report a missing person, Truth N’Politics, first noticed missing a short time after September 11, 2001, near the White House in Washington, DC. She is five feet, five inches tall, brown hair, blue eyes, 125 pounds, and walks with a slight limp. Her friends in the Democratic Party are offering a $100,000 reward for information leading to her safe return.

It is feared that she may have been the victim of foul play instigated by the former Sheriff of Washington, George W. Bush. He and his retired Deputy, Dick Cheney, may have played a part in her disappearance from the Washington scene. If you see either the Sheriff or his Deputy, DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT try to restrain them. Call 911 immediately. They are both believed to be armed and dangerous. Sheriff George is known to be a good shot with his favorite weapon, the 6-shooter. Deputy Dick is not a good shot, but he compensates for that with his shotgun.

With your help, we hope to find Truth N’Politics and restore her to her accustomed place in our political life in Washington.

John Cornyn and the undocumented

John Cornyn, US Senator from Texas and elected in 2002, was on FOX News yesterday saying that he could not support immigration reform until the Federal government does its job and regains the confidence of the American people. He was referring to increased enforcement on our southern border. I expect that he won’t be satisfied until there is a human chain of border agents holding each others’ hands 24/7 along the 1900+ miles of the border. In Fact, the Obama administration has been deporting more of the undocumented than George W. Bush ever did.

It would be very interesting to see the statistics of how many and how long the undocumented have been living in the US. The GOP complain that some undocumented have been here 5, 10, 15 or more years. OK, let’s do the math. President Obama has been in office for four and a fraction years. Any undocumented alien here for five or more years came here before Barack was elected in November, 2008. Those who have been here for 5 to 12 years entered the US during GW Bush’s administration. Those who have been here for 13 to 20 years entered the US during the Clinton years. The Clinton years were more prosperous than the Bush years so more of the undocumented should have entered the US then.

Senator Cornyn, show us the numbers to back up your statements.

Worst VP

Dick Cheney, Vice President of the United States.

My nominee for worst US VP ever is Dick Cheney,  and he has very little competition. That is largely because until recently, vice-presidents did very little. If you go back to Jefferson’s first vice-president, you can say that Aaron Burr was a bad man, killing Alexander Hamilton in a duel and plotting to establish a separate country in the western territories. But he didn’t do that while he was vice-president. Spiro Agnew was forced to resign for his actions as Governor of Maryland before he became vice-president under Nixon. So Cheney has very few competitors.

Cheney selected himself as George W. Bush’s running mate, and he arranged for Bush to be surrounded by other Neocons like himself, Donald Rumsfeld, Condoleezza Rice, and Paul Wolfowitz, who advocated attacking Iraq. We don’t know if Bush decided himself to invade Iraq or whether he was persuaded by Cheney and others. Perhaps we will never know. We do know that Bush was a better governor than he was president, and that Bush was one of the worst presidents ever. I rank him number one. Cheney taught Bush how to be president, and the US paid a very high price for those teachings. That is why I rate Dick Cheney as the worst VP in US history.
