Retaliation

The effort to impeach Attorney General Eric Holder is in retaliation for his efforts to block the new and restrictive voter ID laws in Texas. Most of the sponsors of the impeachment are Texas members of the House of Representatives. They will fail in their effort, but regard it as good practice for their 2015 effort to impeach President Obama if the GOP do well in the 2014 elections.

Scrap heap of history

Paul Ryan sent me an email this morning harping about Fast and Furious. The GOP will not stop trying to make a mountain out of a molehill. Ryan wants to retire Obama and Holder because of the supposed scandal. I would much rather retire Romney/Ryan to the scrap heap of failed presidential campaigns. In five weeks, we can do that. All in favor signify aye.

Shameful

Under the current GOP leadership, we have seen several shameful firsts:

  1. For the first time ever, the  credit rating of our debt was downgraded.
  2. Mitch McConnell admitted that the top GOP priority was to defeat Barack Obama’s bid for a second term.
  3. Attorney General Eric Holder was held in contempt of Congress.
  4. Grover Norquist has stated that the GOP will attempt to impeach President Obama in his second term, if he is re-elected.

Fast and Furious is a hoax instigated by the NRA. Perhaps the GOP are practicing for their future attempt to impeach the President. As they are currently demonstrating, they do not need any reason other than a trumped-up excuse, concocted out of whole cloth.

Darrell Issa

Darrell Issa is the GOP chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. In that position he is conducting the investigation of Fast and Furious, the recommended contempt of Congress citation of Attorney General Eric Holder and the ongoing march to bankruptcy of the US Postal Service. It seems incredible to me that one individual can do so much damage to so many just to score political points and distract the voters from GOP obstruction on the economy. Issa is the wealthiest member of Congress and represents what usually is a safe Republican district in Riverside and San Diego counties. If I lived there, I would certainly vote to unseat him. My son is considering a job offer in his district. If he accepts the offer and moves in time to register to vote in that Congressional district, I will try to persuade him to vote against Issa.

Fast and Furious

In the morning news, John Boehner to terminate Fast and Furious investigation by Congress. I do not have all the facts, but my impression has been that the Fast and Furious investigation was instigated principally to embarrass Eric Holder. Perhaps there will be an impartial telling of the facts at some future date.

Also this morning, I saw an editorial cartoon showing a bumper sticker blaming the US government for supplying guns to drug cartels that are used to kill. What else are guns in criminal hands used for? Besides embarrassing the Obama administration, I think the real reason for the uproar over Fast and Furious was that the private sector, gun dealers in Texas and elsewhere, did not want government competition reducing their sales and profits.
