2013 is almost over and it’s goodbye and good riddance. The GOP refused to accept the will of the American people in November, 2012, and continued the obstruction that began on President Obama’s inauguration day, January 20, 2009. The do-nothing Congress of 2013 was the worst in history, and we can expect even less from Congress in 2014, an election year. It is likely to be the most intense and expensive mid-term election ever, perhaps rivaling a presidential election. It also represents our last chance to end GOP obstruction while President Obama is still in office.
2014 is going to be a very political year. If the Democrats capture the House of Representatives and a super majority in the Senate, it will be possible to end the lingering effects of the Great Recession as well as enact some of the many needed reforms to start our government working again for all Americans, not just the politically well-connected. If we fail, the price will be two more years of obstruction as well as an attempt to impeach the President. The TEA Party must go, and if the GOP will not let go of the TEA Party and they go with it, so be it.

This blog is most concerned with politics and it is not possible to write about it without becoming aware of the myriad problems facing the US. Some are from outside our borders, but most are self-induced by the GOP, aided and abetted by some Democrats, at the instructions of their masters, the 1%. The following list is in no particular order and enumerates our tasks ahead.
- Public financing of political campaigns.
- Limiting the influence of lobbyists.
- Eliminating gerrymandering.
- Require truth in political ads and reporting.
- Stricter gun laws.
- Higher taxes on the very wealthy and corporations.
- Elimination of all tax shelters.
- Reduce offshoring and foreign banking by US citizens.
- More green energy.
- More airlines and greater competition.
- High speed rail.
- Higher minimum wage, a living wage.
- Fewer jails and prisons, none for profit.
- Single-payer healthcare.
- No restrictions on the right of adults to vote, mandatory voting.
- Reformed immigration laws.
- Freedom to petition and to demonstrate peacefully.
- Freedom of worship or to not worship. No religion better than another.
- Restrictions on the CIA and NSA.
- Institute the Robin Hood tax on financial transactions.
- Reinstate usury laws.
I have previously written on many of these subjects, and I will be addressing the others in future posts. Thank you for your support.

Throw enough mud against a wall and some of it will stick. That seems to be the GOP operating method to halt the Democrats in Congress from accomplishing the Obama agenda. Even if none of the mud sticks, and it hasn’t, the media and the public are distracted from real events. Who really cares about or even remembers the GOP inspired pseudo-scandals:
- Fast and furious
- IRS ?

This is to report a missing person, Truth N’Politics, first noticed missing a short time after September 11, 2001, near the White House in Washington, DC. She is five feet, five inches tall, brown hair, blue eyes, 125 pounds, and walks with a slight limp. Her friends in the Democratic Party are offering a $100,000 reward for information leading to her safe return.
It is feared that she may have been the victim of foul play instigated by the former Sheriff of Washington, George W. Bush. He and his retired Deputy, Dick Cheney, may have played a part in her disappearance from the Washington scene. If you see either the Sheriff or his Deputy, DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT try to restrain them. Call 911 immediately. They are both believed to be armed and dangerous. Sheriff George is known to be a good shot with his favorite weapon, the 6-shooter. Deputy Dick is not a good shot, but he compensates for that with his shotgun.
With your help, we hope to find Truth N’Politics and restore her to her accustomed place in our political life in Washington.

Technically, the US is a republic, a representational democracy with protections for minorities. Most people shorten that to a democracy, which is majority rule. Both definitions are true when the Democrats are in the majority. When the Republicans are the majority, the democracy definition still holds true. However, when in the minority, the Republicans still try to rule under the definition of a republic, but they then try to eliminate protections for the majority.
