The Republican position on most everything is , “Father knows best.” God is the Father and men are His representatives here on earth. What if God is a woman? What then? The Bible states that you will be judged by how you treat the poor among us. What if you mistreat the poor by withdrawing the safety net and Obamacare and you mistreat women as the GOP seems intent upon doing? Republicans, you are going to be in deep trouble.
Student debt makes starting life as an independent adult more and more difficult. Because of low paying jobs or no jobs, more and more graduates are living with their parents because they cannot afford a life of their own. This article about protest in Quebec uses the term “debt peonage” which I believe wonderfully describes life in debt, whether from student loans or credit card debt. Allowing the banks to charge more than 10% interest is usury IMHO, prohibited by the Bible and is anathema to all thinking individuals. Thomas Jefferson advocated a free education through college for all free men. By neglecting the education of our young people or making it too expensive and neglecting our infrastructure, we are ensuring that we will not be able to compete in the 21st century. The Soviet Union bankrupted itself by trying to maintain a superpower’s military establishment at the expense of its civilian society. Are we going to follow their example? Have we learned nothing?
Rich Christians in an Age of Hunger: a Biblical Study by Ronald J. Sider. I recommend this book to all. The message is quite simple. God will judge us one and all by how we treat the poor among us.

According to Rick Santorum, Barack Obama practices a different theology. I was raised in the Congregational church and each congregation was free to interpret the Bible as they chose. In fact, each individual could read the Bible in different ways. My parents believed that members of the Catholic church were instructed what to believe by the Pope. There are many different Protestant denominations and I suspect that each interprets the Word of God differently. That is what gives rise to religious disputes, the burning or beheading of heretics and religious wars in the past. As a practising agnostic, I am not an expert on religion. I prefer to mind my own business as long as my neighbor minds his/hers.
