My apologies to William Shakespeare. Whenever a critic of President Obama refers to him as Barack Hussein Obama, I know that the article will be a hit piece, filled with untruths and probably hate too.
How do we hate thee? Let us count the ways.
We hate thee to the depth and breadth and height
Our souls can reach, when feeling out of sight
For the ends of Being and ideal Grace.
We hate thee to the level of everyday’s
Most quiet need, by sun and candle-light.
We hate thee freely, as men strive for Right;
We hate thee purely, as they turn from Praise.
We hate thee with the passion put to use
In our old griefs, and with our childhood’s faith.
We hate thee with a hate we seemed to lose
With our lost saints – we hate thee with the breath,
Smiles, tears, of all our lives! – and, if God choose,
We shall but hate thee better after death.

Chuck Todd recently made my list of worst journalists. I have been watching him closely, at least from time to time, ever since election night 2012 when he was so glum watching Mitt lose. Today he was applauding the Dow as it hit record territory while he castigated President Obama as anti-business. I really don’t understand how he reached that conclusion unless he considers all Democrats as anti-business since Democrats aren’t Republicans. To my mind, President Obama has been too pro-business, putting Wall Street ahead of Main Street. Perhaps Chuck is considering a move to FOX.

Jeb Bush is rightly considered to be the better Bush, but considering his father’s and his brother’s records, that is not saying much. For me to even consider him in 2016, he must speak honestly about both his brother’s record in office and President Obama’s record. I will accept neither “mistakes were made” nor the usual GOP lies. The only words I will listen to are honest ones.

Richard Branson is about to offer flights to the edge of space to commercial customers. A ticket will cost $250,000 for a 2.5 hour flight or about $30/second. When I attended an Obama fundraiser in August, 2007, I paid $500 for 5 seconds of his time or $100/second, three times the hourly rate of space flight.

Who was the better president, Ronald Reagan or Jimmy Carter? Most people who lived through their presidencies would say Reagan and I tend to agree. Reagan uplifted the country while Carter did not. Reagan concentrated on the big picture and largely ignored the details while Carter immersed himself in minutiae and lost track of the big picture, in the opinion of some. I think that Barack Obama most resembles Reagan in concentrating on the big picture while uplifting the country. Mike Huckabee and others on the Right are criticizing the President on ignoring some details, but they would criticize him no matter what. Just can’t please some folks.
