The day after the Brett Kavanaugh confirmation, I am reading Havana Bay by Martin Cruz Smith, author of Gorky Park. Arkady Renko has just been attacked by a Cuban assassin, who died in the attempt, and this is what Renko says:
“I have found from my own experience that–in the absence of other witnesses–a simple, resolutely maintained lie is wonderfully difficult to break.”
Seems appropriate. Similar to Trump’s and Kavanaugh’s strategy to attack and deny.
