Dmitry Medvedev

Who is Dmitry Medvedev? He is currently prime minister of Russia and was president of Russia from 2008 to 2012. Before being chosen for these high positions by Vladimir Putin, he was Putin’s lawyer when both of them worked for the city government of St. Petersburg, Russia. Medvedev is the lawyer who helped defend Putin from serious charges of fraud and corruption during a period of food shortages. Putin’s career might have ended there if the fraud and corruption charges had been proved.

In the Russian system, the president and the prime minister can exchange jobs in a tag-team sort of way. In the US, it would be like having Michael Cohen as Trump’s successor, if Trump served his maximum two terms.
