Blaming the victims

Republicans tend to blame the victims when Republican sponsored efforts create victims that are recognized by the media as victims. For example, people who lost their homes in the Great Recession were blamed for the loss, not the greedy loan originators who traded on the ignorance of the poor and the elderly.

Recent natural disasters involving hurricanes are again bringing out that Republican tendency to blame the victims. Houston residents should not have built their homes in low-lying swampy areas. Residents of Florida built homes along low-lying coastal areas, and residents of Puerto Rico built their homes on an island, surrounded by an ocean and deep water. Most of Houston is a low-lying swampy area and most of the Florida peninsula is barely above sea level.
