No Is Not Enough, Resisting Trump’s Shock Politics and Winning the World We Need by Naomi Klein. Donald Trump is not the problem; he is a symptom of the problem. The problem is unbridled capitalism and the privatization of government for the benefit of the 1% at the expense of the rest of us. Under Trump, the 1% have taken direct control of the Federal government for the first time, dispensing with politicians as intermediaries. We can look forward to manufactured crises, either foreign or domestic, to be cited as justification for the loss of our freedoms and the imposition of the agenda of the 1%. Trump, Putin and others want higher oil prices. One way to do that is more war in the Middle East.
I recommend this book highly; I could not put it down. It is the best narrative of where we are and how we got here. Klein with others has authored the Leap Manifesto, a platform for a better tomorrow that invites politicians to adopt it. In short, we must stop taking from each other and Mother Earth and start giving to each other and caring for the earth. My wife is from Thunder Bay, Ontario, and her relatives still live there. A local Leap coalition is running a slate of candidates there to take over the city council in 2018. It is an election that I shall be watching closely.
