Emily Gets Her Gun…But Obama Wants to Take Yours by Emily Miller published in 2013. This book is well written and is an interesting read. HOWEVER. The author was employed by the Washington Examiner, a conservative rag, and the book was published by Regnery Publishing who publish only or mainly books critical of President Obama. It was her contention that President Obama, if re-elected, intended to confiscate guns from legal gun owners. That allegation was false in 2013 and obviously false now in 2016. The subtitle of her book was scaremongering, designed to sell more books. Fear does sell.
She discusses various options for regulating gun sales and reducing gun violence. She and others cited in the book believe that none of the options will reduce gun violence unless there is a national registry of all guns. If that is the case, then I support registering all guns and confiscating all unregistered guns, principally those in the hands of criminals. There are too many guns in this country and we must reduce their number. Miller and others are opposed to a registry of guns because then the government will know who has a gun and might confiscate the guns of its political opponents. I think that argument is nonsense, but some believe that they must be able to oppose a tyrannical government with force.
I believe that there is a link between gun violence in the US and illegal drugs. We flood the world with weapons and the world floods the US with illegal drugs. More on this in a future post.
Donald Trump liked this book. A blurb on the back cover:
“‘Emily Miller’s reporting shows how stricter gun control laws make it nearly impossible for law-abiding citizens to get guns–while doing nothing to stop the criminals from arming themselves. This is an eye-opening story and a great read.'”
We learn that the Donald is packing heat.
