Money in politics is everything. And Congress is the center of corruption in Washington, DC. Voters agree giving Congress an approval rating between the high one digits and the low two digits. Changing the faces in Congress, term limits, and public financing of campaigns are steps in the right direction, but don’t go far enough. To lessen the opportunities for bribery, I suggest we pay the members of Congress enough money so that they need not work again after serving their one term, my suggested one four-year term. Whether that is $1 million per year or some higher figure, I think that insulating Congressmen and women from the temptation to take bribes would be worth the money. Now the one remaining problem is where to find honest and trustworthy people in our society where money is everything. Thoughts on that in a future post.
