In the past, I have advocated increasing Social Security payments and reducing the retirement age to 50 or 55. Critics have claimed that I am living in a different world; the US is going broke and cannot afford my suggestions. Now as the Panama papers suggest, there is plenty of money to go around; it is just badly distributed at this time. The US is the richest country that ever existed, yet children go hungry and many die too soon for lack of adequate medical care. I am not advocating allocating the wealth equally; I am saying that the current distribution of income is unjust, unfair, and leads to unnecessary stresses in our society. Those who are ignored rightly resent a system that turns its back on the needy. It is the responsibility of those of us who are more fortunate to help them.
