I want more free stuff and I will vote for whichever candidate promises me the most free stuff. That is what the GOP will say about the supporters of any Democratic candidate. In fact, I don’t want more free stuff, aside from a more generous cost-of-living adjustment of Social Security. What I want and the candidate I will vote for will promise is as follows: a well-maintained infrastructure, college education that is not so costly as to put graduates in debt up to their eyeballs. Less income inequality, everyone paying their fair share of taxes, a working democracy that works for everyone, unions that are respected and protected from unscrupulous employers, privatization only where is adequate competition, and a Wall Street that works for Main Street, not for a few hedge fund managers. If the candidate I support calls himself a democratic socialist, so be it.
