One of the disadvantages (or two of the disadvantages) of living in Utah is having Orrin Hatch and Mike Lee as our US Senators. This morning’s local paper contained an editorial by Orrin Hatch in which he claims that he and the rest of the GOP Senators are protecting the US Supreme Court by refusing to confirm Merrick Garland. He does not want the Senate to act as a rubber-stamp for the left-leaning appointment. In truth, the GOP have a majority in the Senate. If some of them vote to confirm, what does that say about the remainder who vote no? They become a defeated minority who could not impose their views on the majority.
