Taxes and fees

Taxes and fees, fees and taxes. It does not matter what you call it; it is still a dollar(s) out of my pocket into the government’s pocket. Mitt Romney balanced the Massachusetts state budget by raising fees $500 million, but he did NOT raise taxes. The GOP hate taxes and they especially hate the fairest tax of them all, IMHO, the progressive income tax.

What is wrong with raising revenue for government by collecting fees from the users of the government provided services? What is definitely wrong is that fees are regressive; they do not take into account the income of the user. The low-income user must pay as much as the wealthy user or do without. That is neither fair nor healthy for our society.
