Today the US Senate voted to reject reducing or eliminating oil company subsidies. The vote to repeal was a majority but fell short of the 60 votes needed. Those in favor of repeal received about $5 million in campaign contributions from big oil, while those against received about $24 million. $29 million is a mere pittance when you consider that oil company quarterly profits are in the tens of billions of dollars. Congress can be purchased cheaply so that you and I can be robbed at the pump.
