Missing

This is to report a missing person, Truth N’Politics, first noticed missing a short time after September 11, 2001, near the White House in Washington, DC. She is five feet, five inches tall, brown hair, blue eyes, 125 pounds, and walks with a slight limp. Her friends in the Democratic Party are offering a $100,000 reward for information leading to her safe return.

It is feared that she may have been the victim of foul play instigated by the former Sheriff of Washington, George W. Bush. He and his retired Deputy, Dick Cheney, may have played a part in her disappearance from the Washington scene. If you see either the Sheriff or his Deputy, DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT try to restrain them. Call 911 immediately. They are both believed to be armed and dangerous. Sheriff George is known to be a good shot with his favorite weapon, the 6-shooter. Deputy Dick is not a good shot, but he compensates for that with his shotgun.

With your help, we hope to find Truth N’Politics and restore her to her accustomed place in our political life in Washington.

Sequester cuts

Sequester cuts are starting to be felt around the country and the GOP are trying to blame the Obama administration for the pain, beginning with White House tours and continuing today with airport delays. It is very hard for the average person to determine how and where the cuts are applied in the budgeting process, but that is one reason we have media who have the time and expertise? to dig into the details. They exist to inform, except on FOX.

This morning, I listened to a commentator say that the 2% sequester translate into a 10% cut in salary and hours for some airport and TSA personnel over the next 5 months. That will lead to some flying delays for the general public, but not for the 1% and Congress who usually fly on private jets. I saw one comment recently by an anonymous 1%-er, “Only losers fly commercial.” With that attitude common? among our leaders, we the 99% cannot expect any relief from sequestration cuts.

Term limits

Our Federal government has three branches, executive, legislative and judicial, and two of the three are elected periodically. Only the judicial branch is not elected and enjoys lifetime tenure. I think that it is time to end the lifetime tenure of the Federal judiciary, especially the US Supreme Court, which tends to lag behind necessary change by years or decades.

This is what I propose to put all three branches of the Federal government on an equal footing; limit all Federal elected offices and the Federal bench to serving a maximum of 12 years. Judges would continue to be nominated and confirmed, but they would serve only for 12 years. Judges are expected to be non-political, but some try to game the system, timing their retirements to when their party is in the White House. That must stop.

For the other two branches, I would also limit their terms to 12 years.
Six 2-year terms for members of the House
Two 6-year terms for Senators
Three 4-year terms for Presidents.
Under the present two-term limit for Presidents, speculation begins immediately about the next election after a President is-re-elected. That reduces a President’s ability to enact needed reforms during his/her second term. The possibility of a third term would give an incumbent President more time to accomplish the will of the people who elected him/her.

GOP DNA

Part of the DNA of the GOP is the belief that only the GOP are fit to govern and stealing elections is permissible to achieve that end. In fact, the GOP will do anything to achieve their goal. In their view the ends do justify any means.

The GOP began stealing elections way back in 1876 in the disputed Tilden-Hayes contest for president. Hayes was declared the victor under a set of very dubious circumstances. The GOP continued to dominate national elections for 52 years from 1860 to 1912 with the single exception of the two split Cleveland terms. Cleveland managed to win his first term because the GOP were split, and the Democrats did not win the White House again until Wilson won in 1912 because of another GOP split.

Another facet of the GOP DNA is that they hate/hated any Democratic President who defeated them.
They hate/hated Wilson.
They hate/hated FDR.
They hate/hated LBJ.
They hate/hated both Clintons,
and they hate both Obamas.

As I see it, the GOP DNA compels them to be a cancer on the US body politic. If they cannot/will not mutate into a harmless form, then the GOP must be exorcised from our democracy or they will kill the host.

Presidential hair

Both Marco Rubio and Rand Paul are considering a race for the White House in 2016. And both men lack two of Mitt’s 2012 advantages, vast personal wealth and presidential hair. We shall see if either or both can overcome those handicaps and win the nomination.
