Jobs, jobs, jobs

Jobs, jobs, jobs is the GOP mantra, at least in the House of Representatives. Yet if that is the case, why does the GOP spend so much time on abortion restrictions? Because they know that abortion restrictions please their base. They also know that the election in November will hinge in large part on the direction of the economy. Therefore, we can look for no actions on their part to stimulate job growth before November. A booming economy will help Barack‘s re-election, while continuing stagnation or slow growth will help Mitt Romney.

Phony scandals

The GOP has been concocting phony scandals about the Obama administration to divert voter and media attention from their obstructions. Yesterday in that tradition, Mitt Romney showed up without advance warning at the closed Solyndra factory in Fremont, California, where he repeated the GOP standard line and lies. Solyndra manufactured solar panels and could not compete with a cheaper product from China. Big Oil and other sponsors of the GOP do not want competitors from green energy to succeed, at least not in the US.

Fast and Furious was a Justice Dept. operation designed to discover the supply chain of weapons from the US to the Mexican drug cartels. The Justice Dept. lost track of some of the guns, and the GOP in Congress has been threatening to impeach Eric Holder because of that. Recently the GOP in the House has decided to drop any action against Attorney General Holder. At some point in this campaign, we can expect to see Mitt on the US-Mexico border talking about Fast and Furious. What he will say about undocumented aliens crossing our southern border is anyone’s guess.

Mitt and women

Mitt Romney has a problem with women. Campaigning separately yesterday, both Mitt and his wife Ann put a foot into their respective mouths when talking to and/or about women’s issues. I recently saw an article on the web that speculated that Mitt’s inability to connect with women is due to the fact that he has never dealt with women as equals. The Romney family is 6 guys and one woman, Ann. And the Mormon Church is a male-dominated organization too. It’s an interesting theory. We will probably never know for sure unless Mitt is more forthcoming about himself than he has been to date.

Fallow fellows

Just tried to get some news and I clicked off FOX News in disgust. They were interviewing another fellow (supposed expert) at a conservative think tank. They bear the title of fellows, but they are really former members of government or government wannabes who are paid to wait for a turn in a GOP government. Rather than work in private enterprise, they are members of a paid bullpen, a staff in waiting. Fallow means currently inactive, may be of use in the future. One could say that fellows at conservative think tanks are fallow fellows.

Price of gas

Here it is the beginning of the Memorial Day weekend when gas prices usually rise for the summer driving season, and gas prices are actually falling. I think that is an ominous sign for the continued health of the economy. Additionally, it was only a short time ago that the GOP was blaming President Obama for the spike in gas prices. Now they are totally silent about the fall in prices. If he is responsible in one direction, he is responsible in the other. Come on GOP, you can’t blame Barack for everything, but you sure do try.
