Concede

Since the GOP lacks viable candidates, I think that their best strategy would be to concede the election to the team of Obama/Biden. The GOP is a minority party and does best with a sparse voter turnout. One way to ensure a low turnout by independents and Democrats would be to concede the office of president. Then GOP candidates might do better in down-ticket contests.

ABM, Anyone But Mitt, is what the severe conservatives of the GOP base (maybe 10%)  want in a candidate.  The 1% support Mitt Romney as their chosen attack system to destroy a second Obama term. Think of Romney as a missile, an ICBM. The ABM is the anti-Romney missile. Earlier versions of the ABM, the Pawlenty missile, the Bachmann, the Cain and the Gingrich have fizzled on the launch pad. Now the 10% have invested all their hopes and prayers in the Santorum missile from the missile division of the Foster Freeze Corp. Coming off their minor successes in the Midwest, the 10% are hoping for a knockout blow in their next test in Michigan. They plan to launch the Santorum from a base in Pennsylania and intercept the Romney launch from a converted auto factory in Michigan. The test is scheduled for February 28, 2012, if there are no mechanical delays.

There is a movement with a website  http://obamaballotchallenge.com/ to promote challenging Barack Obama’s right to be on the ballot in any/all states. They state that the voters should be allowed to vote only for qualified candidates. Well that lets out all the present GOP candidates.

The culture wars are back. Why now? Because the Republicans are desperate for a winning issue. Despite their best efforts, the economy is limping along toward recovery, and Barack’s poll numbers are inching up. The GOP lacks a viable candidate to oppose Barack. Their manufactured scandals, Solyndra and Fast and Furious, are being exposed as the frauds they are. Contrived culture wars are the only remaining way to energize their base and distract the voters.

Will it work? No. Their timing is off; they started too early. The next 6 months will bore many of us silly. The Barack Obama Truth Team will have plenty of time to refute their charges before the election. Sorry guys and gals, Barack will win re-election this year. Better luck in 2016.

Third party

Some bloggers have already posted written or You Tube warnings to Ron Paul not to run as a third-party candidate. They profess fear that a Ron Paul candidacy will cost the eventual GOP nominee the election. In contrast, I am encouraging Ron Paul to run if he decides he should. Barack is going to be re-elected regardless, and a Ron Paul candidacy will be a convenient scapegoat for the GOP to blame.

Some arguers against a third-party candidate cite 1992 when Bill Clinton won with less than 50% of the vote. Others go back to 1912 when Teddy Roosevelt split the GOP vote and Taft, the incumbent, finished third behind Wilson and TR. I enjoy pointing out that the GOP was a third-party candidate in 1856 when the Whigs were a fading power. The 1860 campaign was a 4-party race. I do honestly believe that the GOP will be replaced as a major party in the near future if they do not start supporting the 99% instead of the 1%.

As Lincoln said, “You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can not fool all of the people all of the time.
